The Giftback
The Giftback
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. Isaiah 9:6-7 NKJV
It is the season for giving. I’ve heard my wife say on more than one occasion, “I think we’re done Christmas shopping.” Yet we will head to the store before Christmas morning to buy another gift for someone special. I have no doubt about it. #truth
How about this scenario…Someone totally unexpected gives you a Christmas gift. You smile thinking to yourself “NOOOO! Now I am obligated to ‘giftback.’”
What to do? What to do?
Ah, Is there something we can regift? That’s ALWAYS a good idea. WWJD? He’d be a good steward and repurpose something. Yes, that’s it! Situation solved! Disaster averted! It must have been God’s will! Thank you, Jesus! Pass the eggnog & avoid the mistletoe!
Personally, I have to admit I truly enjoy gifting other people. There’s something authentic yet therapeutic to it. I also admit that I like to be thought of during the Christmas season, too. I’m sure you're this way as well.
Just the other day, I thought, “God gifted us with King Jesus. Do I still feel obligated to giftback?” Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us” (Matthew 1:23).
How can I giftback the creator of it all? He owns it all; It’s all His.
Then, I started to make a list from the Bible in which I/(we) could giftback to God.
Love the Lord, Love my Neighbor (Matthew 22:37-40)
Be a light to the world (Matthew 5:14)
Give a cup of cold water (Mark 9:41)
Take care of a widow and/or an orphan (James 1:27)
Go on an international (or local) mission trip (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8)
Share your faith (Acts 4:19-20)
Love oneanother (John 13:34-35)
Would you consider praying for someone? Lawn Care? Make a meal for a struggling person/family? Babysit? Homebound visit? Quilt a quilt? Give a monetary gift? Giftcards? Community projects? There really are so many ways to giftback to God and others. Give it a try!
